In 2016, there were masses protesting in a fight for the Fees Must Fall movement. Unfortunately one of these protesters turned to violence and destruction of property. This led to a Law Library being petrol bombed in the attempt to burn it down. Although an entire corner of the library was burnt beyond recognition, the rest of the library however was smoke and soot damaged.
Approximately 100 000 books needed to be restored back to their original state. Some of these books being hundreds of years old needed to be restored as they are irreplaceable.
After being awarded the contract to start the cleaning and restoration process, We set-up a whole new factory and 9 new staff. The staff were trained by our book restorer to ensure the job was done correctly.
Three production lines were created,3 teams, 3 ladies per team, 3 stations per production line. We used simple math to calculate number of books, people and time taken to complete the last few jobs of restoration to figure out it would take approximately three years to complete the law libraries books. However, with skilled staff, hard work and dedication we managed to complete this contract in 9 months with minimal loss.
95% of the books were able to be restored back to their original state before the disaster of the fire. This was our biggest restoration to date. There was approximately 100 000 Books.
